I always enjoy stories with little girls and this is no exception. Roman rescues Lydia from an attacker in an alley then takes her home. There he discovers she has a six year old daughter who is very sick. He informs Lydia the he must protect her and her daughter, Jacie, from not one, but two, deadly vampires. Oh, and by the way, Roman is a vampire as well. The chemistry between Roman and Lydia is hot, the pace of the story engaging and the editing mistakes few. I was gifted this book for an honest and truthful review.
I quite enjoyed this book. As a vampire book fan I enjoyed that the story line was quite decent, that it stuck to some of the typical vampire lore, and that the characters were well written. I thought that Roman for being as old as he was for a vampire was a bit wild which threw me. Most of the time older vampires come across as more reserved. So it was definitely a different aspect for me. Lydia could have used a bit more character development I think. I didn’t quite understand her and to me it felt like there was something hiding under the surface with her for most of the book. When she finally became a vampire her story felt much clearer.
I found as the story went along that I couldn’t put it down and I was dying to find out how things turned out. On the other hand the story line did feel a little rushed and it left me with a few questions unanswered. Granted I did like that it left an opening for the possibility of multiple other books that tie in either as standalones or as a series. My hope is to see much more to this story line in other books by this author.
Such a great book! I love vampires and this one is right up there with all the other pnr I read! Its fast paced, witty, charming, sexy and a hell of a read. I wish there was a little more back story and it was longer, but for the length of the story, everything was still well established and didn't have that rushed feeling a lot of shorter books like this tend to be. Can't wait for more!!!!
