A pleasant little read - Miss Marple meets Jessica Fletcher. Mix a few quirky characters, upstairs & downstairs, an English country village and a couple of old-fashioned murders and you have the first book in the Lady Hardcastle series. I'm looking forward to catching up with Lady Hardcastle and Flo again.
I like the characters in these books and as I read to escape this world and just enjoy another time and place with the old morals and ethics I enjoy this read. I do recommend this series. I started at the beginning of the series and will continue to follow their exploits. Recommended to all cosy mystery fans.
I love stories written about around the early 1900's. I found it a little difficult to get into but once I got into it i found it more and more difficult to put down. I really enjoyed reading this book. Thank you :)
I started out not very keen on this book, but soon got into it and really enjoyed the banter between Flo and Lady Hardcastle. I also liked the description of life in England early in the 20th century. I will probably purchase more books in this series.
I liked the characters and the setting of this book. The policeman is not an idiot and he welcomes the help from the two female protagonists. This seems to be a good beginning for a well written light who dunnit series.
Lady Hardcastle and Flo, her ladies maid plus, are excellent characters and enthusiastic amateur sleuths. Altogether a very enjoyable book, A good light hearted read. I am looking forward to more of this series.
Fun, fresh, the language and dialogues are a pleasure to read. Although Armstrong's character could use a bit more development, Lady Hardcastle is quite lovable. I look forward to reading the rest of her adventures.
