As a scientist, a student once asked me who I look up to in the scientific community. I had never thought about this before, and the first person that came to mind was Einstein. I first heard about Stephen Hawking through pop culture such as the Simpsons, and I attempted to read his brief history of time. But this book, representing his responses to some of the most compelling questions of our time, showed to me what a scientist like me should aspire to be, contributing to our hard won body of human knowledge, but at the same time teaching others what we have learnt. I am sad that he is gone now, but I am glad that we have documented in part what he thought about important topics.
