Part personal memoir, part criminal history, part indictment on our justice system - this book is a compelling read. The personal sacrifice and bravery shine through and I came away with a profound respect for the men and women who give their lives to serve the community. This is very well written, at times humorous, moving and thrilling.
For anyone with an interest in true crime, wanting to know what motivates these detectives to solve the most brutal of murders, this is compulsory reading. I defy anyone not to be moved by the story of Gary Jubelin’s life.
Well written story about one of Australia’s heroes. It is fast paced, clearly explains critical detail, and covers the murders that received considerable media reporting in NSW in the past two decades. I came away from the book with immense admiration for the tough job of detectives and the need for communities to support our police force. Gary is tough and forthright and he reveals the softer side of his nature. He reminds me of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus - a dark and driven character with a noble purpose. This is the best non fiction book I’ve read for several years.
An interesting insight to an interesting career a thoroughly intriguing read for a very casual reader. Even to hear his appeal against his fine has been upheld a disappointing end to a dedicated battle..I believe in the death sentence for child molesters, pedophiles and killers where there is no doubt whatsoever. He deserved a medal not a conviction
Very interesting man & subject matter- especially if you’re into true crime. Hard core guy, not always successfully integrating his yin & yang. Eye opener on some procedures, no real surprises in the office politics & ego driven personalities in the system. Obviously he’s had to leave some things out, but a great read.
Thought this was a good book, however, I would've like to have more details about what went on in the investigations and I didn't like the way it jumped around. I love his Podcast, and have found out a lot of information about the cops and crims. I have also ordered a few book from people he has interviewed.
As a big fan of Gary's podcast, I felt that I knew him better by his revelations about himself in the book. It details what our detectives have to cope with when dealing with horrendous crimes, as well as the crimes itself and is a great insight into 'how to catch killers'.
A really great read. He had more trouble with fellow officers, both senior and junior than you would expect. I am not surprised as it happens in Police Forces around the world. Despite what happened to him at the, he really did good.
I liked the pure honesty of it. And I totally agree with him. He will be a great loss to the Police Force if they completely cut him out, as he devoted his life to the Police Force at the expense of his family life. Hopefully the outcome today will be in his favour, however he does have a huge part of NSW backing him.
To really appreciate this title, I believe that the reader needs to have a policing background. To really read between the lines. Gary was the ultimate dedicated cop who took his profession very seriously. This dedication is shown when reading. He battled, not only the criminal elements but the very system that was his career. A great read
Bought this book for my hubby's 54th birthday gift. He immediately glued himself to it. He said it was thrilling and enjoyable to read. He also said that he remembered most of the cases in the book as they were on the news at some point so he was happy to read how everything unfolds in the book!
