I absolutely adore this Scandinavian-inspired world with dragons versus wolves, and the twins caught in the middle. The world is so lush and atmospheric, and when the weather gets cold, you can *feel it*. I also love the magic system and the quest to forbidden lands and mysterious mountaintops, which spoke to my childhood love of Emily Rodda. This instalment sees us venture to Drekhelm, home of the dragons, and it was great to see the dragon society at play!
There are some great learning moments here for the characters and young reader about valuing differing perspectives, not jumping to conclusions, finding a balance between heart and head, and trying to understand that history is written from the perspective of the victors.
I look forward to seeing where our diverse magical crew end up next.
