THIS ONE'S A KEEPER, FOLKS...

WHEW. WELL, THATS OVER. WHAT. A. FREAKIN’. AMAZING. BOOK.
RED RISING is the quintessentially extraordinary reading experience. A dystopian science fiction YA masterpiece, it does more for the genre than anything thats come before it. It does more for reading than JK Rowling miraculously achieved. If this had come first....
Divided into four parts, part one entitled, “SLAVE” is easily the most emotionally gripping, heart breaking, tension filled, shakespearian love tragedy since Romeo met Juliet. And thats no hyperbole. We meet Darrow, we meet his love Eo. We learn what a Red is, how they live, how they love, and how they die.
One critique i submit for your comsideration is with the structure of the opening paragraph, no less. In my humble opinion, the final sentence of the second paragraph should be the book’s opening line. But what would i know, lol?
PART TWO is called, “REBORN” and spoilers prevent me from revealing what this means but given this is book one of a planned six book series its not hard to work out who this relates to. But we learn what hope is, who has it, and wht incredible lengths the desperate and the over run go to in order to earn freedom. What an amazing word that is. FREEDOM.
PART THREE is called simply, “GOLD” and this is where the book really shines (pun totes intended). The ruling class of this horrible alternative future are the Gold and in the most heinous way possible they apply Darwinm to their youth to find their best leaders and war strategists to build their futures on. But to put it simply, no plan is full proof. SUCKED IN GOLD
PART FOUR is called, “REAPER” and this one gifts the fan with the mother of all climaxes. Its hard to believe we are reading the first part of a series as this one is packed so with so much action, profundity, friendship making, enemy making, gruesomeness that it feels like the end of it all. There’s no sex, though, its a YA book dont forget. The book’s finale is absolutely superb. You wont know which way the literary wind will blow until you cast your eyes across the book’s final paragraph. I finished this book twelve hours ago, and as i sit here at my breakfast table completing this review, i have goosebumps the length of my body as i contemplate how it finished.
RED RISING is a bloodydamn masterpiece. It makes you feel envious of those that have fought for freedom in the past, even those lucky (or unlucky) enough to be branded as Reds in the mines of Made Up Mars.
Its a book you won't forget in a hurry, in fact, they’ll prise my copy of it from the hands of my cold, dead body. This one’s a keeper, folks, and thats a gorydamn promise.
