This was a complex, epic high fantasy that had magic, dragons, little to no sex, dragons, combat, dragons, good dragons, bad dragons and stuff. I bought the trade paperback on release, and transferred over to a purchased kindle copy at the half way mark, mainly because i find reading on kindle easier with a latte within permanently sippable reach.
The writing was fine, the cast of characters was HUGE. You really need to commit yourself to this book to really enjoy it, and to be honest i didnt, much to my own chagrin. I didnt NOT enjoy it, but i probably didnt respect the book as much as i should have, since i bought it twice. The plot kept on racing along and the final battle with the book's principal enemy was fantastic. There is a massive love interest and it surprised me to see who was involved. One thing I find annoying in this genre is the difficulty to pronounce (and learn) some of the principal character names, and that is a barrier to immersion. Fantasy authors, take note.
The Cover is gorgeous. not so much on my kindle screen, but hopefully amazon Tech will develop an e-ink e-reader that uses colours. in 4k even. on an 8-inch screen. But, i digress. The book is an excellent fantasy tale, made even more excellent if you like dragons. I like dragons. Dragons are cool.
Such an amazing read. So many stories intertwined into this amazing adventure. It's so fantastic reading about strong female characters with rich tapestries, dualities, twists and turns. Loved it and am looking forward to more. Samantha Shannon has a new fan in me. In fact I've already bought her other books.
Long fantasy saga with a detailed plot. Sometimes it was a bit confusing with so many characters and POVs, but as the book progressed the storyline came together. It also had an excellent love story between two strong women. Well worth a read.
