In this story Antimony Timpani Price takes on the entity known as the Crossroads, a place where bargains are made that usually enslave or create problems for the bargainer. But it wasn't always so. At one point in the past the Crossroads changed from a more benign entity to a cruel and nasty dangerous one and Annie is determined to turn the clock back and stop the takeover. She has the help of friends from the cryptid world and a new friend sorcerer James who Annie immediately adopts as part of her extended family.
My only problem with this book is that the Aeslin mice make no appearance. They are one of the delights of the series and add humour and a light touch that balance some of the darker aspects of the series and their absence really does affect my enjoyment of the story. But it's still an enjoyable story.
And the mice do make a small appearance in the excellent bonus novella so my 4.5 stars goes up to 5 for the combination of the two stories.
