To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Vachs' writing is very lean. His prose is direct and simple, which makes the rare occasion when he uses a colorful or abstract turn of phrase that much more noticeable. Some of his stories in this collection had fairly predictable endings, but none of them were boring. His writing FEELS realistic, tho I should think that only a career criminal, serial killer, sexual predator, or law enforcement professional could really tell you. All of his works in this collection follow just such characters, and do it in remarkably convincing fashion. The brevity of each story makes the book quite easy to consume in small bites over time, so it's an excellent book for someone who is forced to snatch a few pages of reading here and there.
