An amazing book! I would highly recommend reading this before watching the mini-series as it fills in all the details before, during and after. If you have seen the TV series then it won't disappoint as it covers a lot of detail that wasn't in the series. Eloquently written, like a piece of dramatic science fiction, except it happened, it covers the history, the people and the science of what happened. Amazing investigative research and details that must have taken years to piece together. I can't speak highly enough of this book. Kudos Adam.
The author provides a succinct yet formative background of the social, political, economical and ideological states in the USSR that led to this tragedy. The research and the details are impeccable. The glimpses into the lives of the people involved as well as their actions is coupled with layman explanations of nuclear power and the events that led to the explosion. Fascinating highly recommend it
Well written account of a terrible event. Really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. Recommend both as a historical account but also a tale of how many small errors can come together to create a disaster.
This is a great read. Not only does it describe the event and the aftermath in great detail but also gives personal accounts and histories of the people involved. Even the explanations of the particular workings of the Soviet political system were thoroughly fascinating. Wonderful, wonderful book. One of my favourites.
Unbelievably detailed account of the biggest atomic accident in human history. The blend of a painstakingly research and first person testimonials made this book one of the best nonfiction book I have ever read.
