The Earl's Fancy is one of my favorite books of all time-- the great comedic lines between the Callie (the heroine) and Rutledge (hero) is laugh out loud funny. Written in the 1980's, it is a light romantic comedy that has a few kissing scenes but the greatest part is the character building. Callie, who is saving her family (with her father just surviving a stroke) from "nephew and wife" who would gladly kick them out of their family home as soon as the father dies. Although the premise sounds dark, it is anything but. The slap-stick comedy abounds and the meaning of true friendship, sisterly togetherness, and love is well represented. I can't say enough about how wonderful this book is and continues to be years and years later. I bought other Charlotte Hines books hoping to see the same venue and was disappointed. This book is a gem!!! Pseudonym is Judith McWilliams.
