BRILLIANT BEW SERIES OPENER!!!
30 March 2014
The opening page of this book will shock you. You may even be offended by the subject matter but it is so well written and intertwined into the book's plot that you will keep reading. You will find yourself addicted to the story line by chapter's end and by the end of chapter three you will find it almost impossible to book the book down.
The Women's Murder Club books are all set in San Francisco. FIRST TO DIE is the opening book in this by now world famous series and it is easy to see how they became so popular. And to base the stories around a group of women is a stroke of genius. A psychotic mass murderer is on the loose, and he targets newly weds, literally, on their wedding day. The first murders will shock you as much as the opening scene did and even the major players in the tale - hardened crime fighters, in their own way - will find it hard not to turn away from the evil they face.
James Patterson has honed his skill of writing fast paced bestsellers down to a fine art. His books are all highly relevant, gripping, action packed mysteries with bad guys so bad you hate them as much as you love the good guys (in this case, the good gals). The writing is fast paced, the story shoots along at breakneck speed like an express train at maximum velocity. And these books are unique in the Patterson universe because each member of the CLUB have their own unique histories, problems and issues to deal with. And they are women.
Yay for originality.
You grow to like them, and in turn, to love them. They are vulnerable, problematic, honest, and most of all, human. They are therefore flawed, just like the rest of us. But despite their problems, they still have the guts to show up and face the day's issues. And solve the crimes. And catch the bad guys, making the world a safer place for the rest of us.
So i hereby award this book four stars.
Not quite perfect, but an awesome start to a new series.
And as always, one must leave room for improvement.
