A review in the AFR and a recommendation from my GP alerted me to this book which virtually puts dietary behaviour of the last 40 or so years on its head. I have followed a healthy diet, as was then promoted, for well over 25 years now, but had long become suspicious about some of their aspects. Peter Brukner, a medical professional, explains in detail the pro's and con's of the various foods and who should eat what depending on one's health. He is not promoting any particular diet, is in fact critical of all these 'fad' diets, and instead suggests simply healthy eating. I learnt a lot from this book and will accept it as a guideline for my healthy eating
At last a simple yet truthful approach to understanding how to lose weight effectively and free from bias. Sugar is an undesirable substance which causes more harm than good, which explains why yo-yo diets never work. The time has come to reclaim healthy eating and remove sugar from our lives.
Peter applies his considerable medical experience and demystifies the topic better than any other author I've read. He writes with clarity, practical good sense and humour. Refreshingly, through his own journey, he is a convert to the evidence-based support for low-carb and healthy fat eating but isn't a zealot. Highly recommended.
