One of Us Is Lying is an excellent novel about 4 High School Seniors and a murder. Told in first person narrative, Karen M. MacManus has created a highly engaging story that admitted I started reading in the voices of the characters from The Breakfast Club, although I quickly got sucked into what turned out to be a successful whodunnit.
Four students; Bronwyn, Addy, Cooper and Nate are in detention. Also, there is Simon, the owner of the school gossip app that makes the lives of the students at Bayview High a living hell. When detention ends, Simon is dead, and the novel examines which of the remaining 4, if any of them, had the opportunity, means and motive to kill him.
I admit the beginning was confusing for me. Moving from character to character, each of the four written in the first person was complicated, particularly as separating which character was which was quite hard until they established themselves.
I'd figure the who out by the 50% mark of the story, but the how had me stumped right up until the end.
