Claire has survived an attack by a madman, an attack which has left her physically and emotionally scarred. She is too afraid to have a shower without her mum nearby and leaving the house is an ordeal for her as well, but despite all of this, she is determined to live her life as best she can. Then Paul comes into her life, a kind, gentle soul who seems to understand her. But does he really?
This was an intense story and what added to it was that it was also told from the POV of the Black Out Killer. The tension built and built and I was getting ready to just sit and read until the story finished, although I was almost afraid to turn the pages. Unfortunately, the ending was kind of flat? I am hoping there is a sequel to this book though, I would love to see what Claire does next, she really impressed me.
*Warning to animal lovers: there is a section of the book which has a graphic description of animal abuse. If I had known this, I probably wouldn't have read the book, it is something which I just can't handle.*
The vast majority of this book was really good and I would like to read something else by this author in the future.
Closer Than You Think is a book that I had to read with the lights on! When you read it you will understand why. This book is dark, creepy and extremely intense... and I loved it. The story was one that I could not get out of my head and I thought that I had it all worked out.. and It was an OMG moment when I was wrong.. what an ending!! Brilliant writing Mr Sullivan.
Claire Moore was the one that got away. Her husband and 6 others had not been so lucky. She was the survivor of the Black-Out Killer. She lost everything that night and her life hasn't been the same since. It is 10 years later and she still lives in fear, even though he has been locked up. She struggles with day to day things like showering and is unable to work. She is frightened of her own shadow. But then she meets Paul and her life starts to get better and she gets a bit braver. And then the killings start again.. the same way. She takes a massive step back in her recovery and suffers guilt for being alive. The killer is watching Claire... will she ever feel normal again.
This story is original and dark. I was pulled into the lives of these characters and was feeling everything that they were feeling. And as I said, I kept the lights on! It is scary!!
This is the story of Claire and the brutal attack on her life by a serial killer dubbed as the black out killer.
The one difference between her and the killers other victims is that she survived.
10 years after her attack, it is happening again. Is this the work of a copy cat or is the killer that was thought to be dead still alive, and will he once again set his sights on Claire to finish what he started.
This was a gripping thriller that got under my skin. I will never feel the same about a blackout again!
This was a well written and structured thriller and just when you think you have figured it out, you really haven’t.
