These form the base of all our free-form LEGO building, they can be taped across the back with duct tape to keep them all aligned. We also use chalkpens on them (which can be washed off) to draw parking, lanes etc. They have not changed over the years and last forever. This LEGO had quite a lot of components to it which was quite daunting for my 8 year old who got this for his birthday. Between the 2 of us, we had so much fun putting it together. He absolutely loves it, showing off what his LEGO racer can do. Easy to follow instructions, make sure to have 6 AA batteries for the racer and 3 AAA
