LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! As a teacher, this space of "transition" from primary school to high school is one that is increasingly complex and challenging . We often spend a lot of time focussing on the needs of schools to be ready for the students and assisting the parents cope with navigating high school and their kids becoming older and more independent, but we don't often equip our young people to be self-sufficient and give them the skills necessary in this big period of their lives. Amba's writing style is not only accessible, but it cuts through the jargon that is so often in these style of "transition" books. This makes it UNIQUE. The issues she deals with and tackles are 100% relevant to our kids (students in my case!). I simply cannot review this book highly enough to give to students shifting into high school - not to mention the parents and teachers of these kids to enable important conversations to take place. The reality is it won't always be easy and without bumps - Amba's book is one way we can help kids rationalise these things and develop resilience in their formative years.

I LOVED this book! As an educator, I am so excited that something like this exists. Amba has a down-to-earth, straight-forward writing style that makes this book accessible to all students. She tackles all sorts of issues, from organisational skills to dealing with difficult friendships. Actually, I have to admit, as I was reading, I was actually thinking what a difference this would have made to me when I was in high school! All the lessons I had to learn the hard way are right here in one nice compact read! I can't recommend this enough to anyone making the transition to high school themselves, or to anyone who knows/ works with children this age. :)

Fantastic book! Brown writes in an extremely relate-able way, making the reader feel at ease about everything that they may or may not be feeling at the start of high school. Its an excellent gift for anyone approaching High School, though I must admit a lot of it applies to absolutely any transition period in your life!
