I was enticed to try VR for the first time by a competitive holiday sale price. I'm a casual gamer so (even still) AU$800 was a fair amount to drop on something new and untried but I'm really glad I did. The best part of gaming (for me) is the immersion and just losing time -- its a way to relax -- and you really can't get more immersed than VR.

Interestingly, my partner has a much more... removed... experience with VR. He likes it and has fun but he doesn't fully immerse and buy-in to the world. So for him, gaming via VR is more cerebral. For me it's more visceral. But I'm a movie-lover and a book-reader and a music-listener (and he's not) so my brain is hardwired to drop in and out of worlds. I think that is why our VR experiences are very different.

Mentioning it in case you are buying for a family where some members aren't really into the whole 'suspension of disbelief' thing. I wonder how much of VRs impact is lost for those people.

The equipment is not small so you're going to need a place to keep the rather large headset but the hand-controllers are awesome and easy and I find it quite clunky to go back to the regular PS controller now.

My unit came bundled with Horizon: Call of the Mountain which has been fun to play but I'm already branching out and looking for other games and formats that will suit (eg: First person survival game, Escape room, etc).

The last time I had tried VR was an original Oculus headset a mate had brought into work around 10 years ago.

I remember trying it on and thinking "this ain't it", so it came as a huge surprise to see just how much the technology has advanced over the past decade.

Sony have clearly utilised their experience with active 3D tech to create a depth that is just utterly astonishing.

I primarily play Gran Turismo 7 these days, which offers full VR support. I can tell you that since acquiring this headset, the only way I could feel more like I'm driving on a race track is if I actually was.

It has taken some getting used to, the first night I went all in and started feeling a little warm and nauseous (clearly a degree of motion sickness), I popped on a fan and felt much better.

Each use though, I've gotten more an more used to it.

It has some great quality of life features, like being able to press a button and "see" the room you're in without having to remove the headset.

Getting the headset focused it probably one of the trickier aspects, but it is almost always about how it is positioned on your head.

My only complaint is the fact that it is still hardwired. I understand something like this would chew through battery life very quickly, however the cable can get caught or feel like it weighs you down sometimes.

At any rate, glad I took to plunge and am looking forward to testing out Call of the Mountain and RE Village.

Got this on a prime day, the VR 2 headset is much better than the psvr but could still have a better resolution, works ok with most glasses.
The included game is good,

Compared to the PS4 VR this one is a huge improvement. I'm one of those people that suffer from motion sickness but regardless of that and a few travel calm tablets I love VR.
