Sorry I did not like this book. I did not like any of the characters and the main person Jo was a headcase. She was so flighty and stupid and clumsy she kept speaking all her thoughts out loud and falling over things. Not to mention hallucinating. She was literally deranged. And utterly utterly pathetic. I think she was supposed to be endearing or something but I wanted to slap her. Really wanted one of the baddies to kill her off. Spoiler alert: alas they didn’t. Won’t be reading any more books by this author based on how daft this one was.
I thoroughly enjoyed Samantha’s last book Date Night and was looking forward to seeing what she was going to come up with next. I am pleased to say that The Happy Couple is a great read to get lost in and as the blurb suggests, is nail-biting and gripping! I was on the edge of my seat as Samantha pulled me into Jo and Will’s world and its drama.
Samantha has crafted a thrilling plot that had me completely hooked just from reading the blurb. It is an intense story as Jo’s world comes crashing down around her when her husband Will mysteriously disappears. Cut to a year later and there is still no sign of what happened to Will, but when Jo applies for a house sitting job she is shocked to discover a picture of Will on the mantlepiece of one the homes. The plot then thickens as the saying goes…
Each of the characters in the story has something to hide and I enjoyed peeling back the layers to uncover their secrets. My heart went out to Jo and I could feel her pain through the pages. At times it was hard to read as she falls deeper and deeper into depression and her obsession with finding out what happened to Will. The rest of the cast have all been well written and are believable in roles that they play.
Samantha is a great storyteller and has a real gift of taking the reader in one direction, while slowly working her wicked ways in the background. Just when you think you have figured it out, in she comes to pull out the rug from underneath you and takes the story in another direction! I love when an author does this and Samantha is one of the best at it.
The Happy Couple is a slow burn, but once it kicks it does so full steam ahead. I was furiously turning the pages on my kindle, as I just had to know what was going to happen and I was not disappointed! It was a pleasure to read and review The Happy Couple which I recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Samantha Hayes for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Happy Couple which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
From the very first chapter I knew I was going to enjoy reading it and it did not disappoint. I could not put the book down as the story kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is fast paced and exciting.
The drama and suspense are excellent.
I was feeling dizzy and light headed from so many twists in the last quarter of the book.
Samantha Hayes is a wonderful author I found this book very addictive and I couldn’t sleep, eat or work until I have finished her book.
I would like to thank Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Jo's husband, Will, just left, missing. After a year expecting him to come back, she saw his picture when she was about to apply to be a house sitter. How come Will's picture is there? Has he left her to be with someone else? Don't hold your breath, as prior to the end of the story, you'll still get a couple of twist and surprise. A highly recommended reading!!
