Angsty, gripping, overwhelmingly breathtaking. These are just some of the adjectives I can mention to describe this incredibly well-written story. Since the launch of the novella featuring Ava and Knox I have been dying with the anticipation to have more of them. This full-length version is absolutely everything I had hoped for and more. It is so honest, so fabulously sensual and emotional that I can honestly say it is one of the best I have ever read. The chemistry between the characters is off-the-charts, their pain visceral and palpable. I do not want to give anything away about the story, just praise it for the masterpiece that it is. Its ability to convey so deep and strong feelings (and I mean, even physical, as I caught my heart racing on more than one occasion!) makes it an unequalled work of art and love that I will cherish and read over and over again for many years to come.
This book is absolutely spectacular. It covers some hard emotional topics that are very well written. I could not put it down, it was simply amazing and I loved every part of this book. The highs and lows throughout this book keep you hooked from the first page. Ilsa Madden-Mills did an exceptional job with Dear Ava
This is my first review and I have read over 100 books and counting but I just simply could not go past taking the time to stop and post a review for Dear Ava. I always read reviews and they do influence my decision to click and buy as did all the reviews for Dear Ava! I WAS NOT disappointed - please just click and buy - this book has it all
From the events of the opening chapter, which may cause triggers to some readers, Ilsa Madden-Mills had me completely glued. Even though there is no actual description of the events that unfolded, it is an intense read, an unforgettable introduction to Ava "Tulip" Harris.
It's now nine months later and Ava has returned to Camden, the school where her abuser more than likely also attends. Ava is determined to find out the truth about what really happened to her on that fateful night. She's also determined to prove that she's stronger than everyone thinks she is.
Camden is a school for the elite, the snobs, and it is ruled by the football team, the Sharks. Ava has never really fitted in, even though she once tried to. She's from the wrong side of the tracks, a scholarship kid, she lives in a group home and also looks after her younger brother, Tyler. Ava is smart, top of the class smart. She's also gained the attention of the head Shark, the quarterback, Knox Grayson. Knox is not at all who he appears to be. He really is all smoke and mirrors. Beneath his tough, old exterior lies a heart of gold. A man who is loyal, trusting and very very sweet.
I loved the relationship between Ava and Knox. It was never an easy one, a lot of push and pull from both sides. Yes, they may begin as enemies, but were they, really? In a deeply emotional and heartbreaking story, Ava and Knox will capture your heart and simply melt it. Letters, texts, conversations and heated looks, between the two, show how much they truly inspire and care for one another. Love is also there, it's not an instalove though, but one that slowly develops and grows. Even after a misunderstanding, due to miscommunication, the love still remeains.
Is Knox able to get Ava to fully trust hiim? Can he be the one to put her broken heart back together? Will his family be the ones who keep them apart, just as things seem to be on the right track?
I couldn't get enough of Ava and Knox. I literally read their story in one sitting. It was simply mesmerising. That ending ... PERFECT. I really liked Dane, Knox's twin, so I'm hoing that Ms Madden-Mills writes his story.
Ava the scholarship girl will never be one of them, a Shark one horrific event during her junior year seen to that. But she's back with a vengeance and being one of them is not something she wants. It never was. This time though she want's nothing more than to make sure her little brother is set up for the future. Even if it costs her to be back in that place.
But there is one Shark that can't let go from what happened to her. One Shark that will anything to find out the truth. One Shark that even though he shouldn't will pull her in and give her the world.
From the very beginning my heart was broken. It bled for Ava, made me want to scoop up this character and hug her tight. All her life Ava has been though the ringer there was no one on the other side willing or able to help her deal, not really. But I loved that she took time for herself, then got back up brushed herself off and faced down the Sharks without an outwardly care
Knox is not your typical Shark. Oh he walks their walk, and talks their talk. He may even be their leader. But he is different. His seen what Ava has gone though and it will always be his first instinct to care for and protect her even if he believes that he will only hurt her worse. The relationship with his twin is so heartwarming. Dane is the one thing Knox cares about. He will also do absolutely anything for him. His love for his brother rivals the love he develops for Ava but in the end he will do anything to make sure the events of the past don't ruin their futures.
I dug the back and forth banter between Ava and Knox, they were like water and oil, for a time. I loved the inner dialogue from Knox, watching him finally crack was everything. The secondary characters also drew me to them Wyatt was probably my favourite, he helped Ava find herself in that school, giving her someone else in her corner.
So being a massive fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills I immediately signed up to review this book. Then I saw that it was a longer version of a short story from an anthology I had previously read. But figured it would be ok, my memory is pretty bad and there's a load more contents.
As I started reading it I started to remember the story and I was a little worried that the new content was just filler. But I was so hooked and I couldn't remember some of the details so I kept reading and fell in love with the whole thing. And there was so much more to the story.
Ava is a character who is completely forged in steel. She went through hell and back and never came close to giving up. She just kept fighting for everything she wanted and I loved her so much.
But Knox was equally as beautiful. He had moments where he ran hot and cold and I wanted to scream at him because Ava deserved so much more. But then I also understood where he was coming from thanks to the story being told in dual point of view. I wish there was a lot more of them together but I can't complain because seeing Ava heal and grow made me all warm and fuzzy.
And I really loved the epilogues. That's right two of them just to put the cherry on the awesome story sundae. The background characters were perfect and I would kill for them all to get their own books.
Ava wakes in the woods alone and not knowing when, what or how had happened to her. She can't recall details of what had happened of that night - she does know she had been assaulted, and that someone had rescued her, leaving her at her friends house so that she could be taken to hospital. Flash forward 10 months and Ava returns to her school, she has changed; her boyfriend had dumped her after she had told the police and investigators what had happened to her. Just as she is having to endure all the stares she gets to her locker and finds a note. It is a note from a football player, part of the Shark elite. This is such a gripping story, the characters are realistic and the angst is agonising! The story is told from both POV. Ava is such a strong character, shes sassy, bad assed, loving and loyal wanting to protect her brother. Characteristics she shares with Knox. Knox had been through personal hell watching his family disintegrate because of assault, sucide and drugs. He watched over Ava drawn to her strength. I was throughly hooked into the story and there are twists and turns, mystery and diversions as slowly the identity of the person who attacked her is revealled. This is is a powerful, emotional story. This story is an absolute MUST to read. There is a HEA in the epilogues. Worth more than 5 stars!!
Ava has had a tough upbringing and doesn't really fit in with the rich kids she goes to school with. A year ago she left school after speaking up about a terrible event had most people turning against her and not believing her. But some are wondering what the truth really is... Now she's back, she's stronger and isn't going to be the wallflower some of them thought she was. She's determined to make sure they won't win, and to find out what really happened. And looks like she's got a Secret Admirer on her side.... I loved Ava and her love for Tyler. It was the absolute sweetest!
Knox was such a great character. Yes he's one of the football players, the leader, but he's always been drawn to Ava and he believes her story - which doesn't make his fellow team members happy. He seems like such a complex character, the unobtainable guy that everyone wants but he never really lets anyone close. His care and concern for his brother, and his actions with Ava show his softer side. I loved the scenes between Knox and Dane, and the love between the brothers. I hope Dane gets a book!
This was an amazing book about love, truth, loyalty, hope, justice and family. Loved it and hope we see more of these characters.
