This book came up when I searched genealogical mysteries. The genealogical link is tenuous to say the least but once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down. I am a big fan of any stories set in Cornwall. Ruth’s descriptions bought the war years in Cornwall to life. There were parts that had me sobbing. Only ‘problem’ is that I am now hooked on Ruth’s books.
This book brought me back immediately to Cornwall, where I felt so wonderful and at home. I went back immediately to the wonderful Photos and my Diary I wrote when I was there with my husband, exploring and enjoying every Minute.
I have just finished reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it, it was hard to put down. A great read. I would really like to know what happened to Evie. Did I miss something? Maybe I will have to reread it. I will be reading all of Ruth's novels I really like her work with such detail almost like a history lesson. Thankyou.
Wow what a fantastic read which kept me turning pages to the small hours of the morning eager to find out what happens. The characters are well written as we go from Ww1 to present day, even the Duchess of Sussex gets a mention. I loved the way the story was woven around Estella and Nell’s stories. The story was well researched and written so that there were times when I felt I was there with them watching what was happening. The ending left me feeling both sad and happy with some tears.
