I adore these two authors on their own, yet put them together and it truly is another level. Together they manage to create such fun, well written, substantial yet unique stories. Pen-pals turned lovers...such a unique idea... ‘Dirty Letters’ is a one of my favourite stories of the year.
Luca and Griffen, two young souls who connected being pen pals. They told each other everything. From the age of seven, Luca and Griffin shared everything and had a deep friendship, through their letters across the sea. Then at the age of seventeen everything suddenly stops....
Hurt and confused Griffin tries to reach out to no avail. Eight years later he again reaches out, still needing the closure, but will she even reply? Luca is stunned to receive a letter from Griffin, although her life has changed dramatically, she responds... It was a letter that reconnected them. She explained why she stopped writing, what she was living with, and how sorry she was. He responded, and it was like time had not passed... expect their letters became more dirty!
Luca, had her own quirks that made her more of a non-traditional heroine but that is what I loved about her. She had flaws but watching her tackle those head on was inspiring. I loved watching her character grow throughout the story.
Omg this book is everything !!! Told in both POV's I was hooked from the beginning. What happens when two souls, who are perfect for each other, fight for a happily ever after. I laughed and I cried and my heart was hanging in the balance needing them to meet...
If you are looking for a best romance of the year book to read, this is it!
This book is so good for your soul. Just such a lovely story with two beautiful characters. Luca and Griffin have been pen pals since they were 7 or 8 years old. He lived in the UK and she in the US. When Luca was 18 a tragedy so profound stopped her from writing to Griff until 8 years later he reconnected with her. Boy grab your tissues with this one it’s a beauty! Beautifully written, great storyline and huge emotion. Just loved it.
A truly beautiful love story with all the feels. Angst and heart break coupled with love, support, kindness and laughter. Luca was so brave and amazing. She worked so hard to try and overcome her issues. She really deserved a wonderful guy like Griffin. Gosh you had to love Griffin, he is so patient, strong and loving. It was such a different but gritty and inspirational love story.
Some great support characters like the wonderful Doc and lovely Doris. A fantastic read with an extra special gift at the end. Loved it.
Firstly - I love the cover. I don't usually even bother with the covers, however I love this duos covers.
It seems like forever since we have had a Vi/Pen collaborations, and I went into Dirty Letters blind. I know that I am going to enjoy their stories, so I don't have to know what it is about!
Luca and Griffin's story is kind of a second chance story - though can you have a second chance if you were never together to begin with? 💁
With a book called Dirty Letters and a rock star, I was expecting things to be a little more dirty, escpecially from him. However he was the calm to the storm in Luca's life, and you can't help but adore him even more for that.
My heart hurt for Luca, for what she has been through. For what she is going through. Yet you can feel her strength through it all. I was her biggest cheerleader.
What I really liked though is that there wasn't the "thing". In every Penelope/Vi book, there is the "thing" that happens, and I was turning each page, waiting for it to happen. And I didn't! And I cheered! Yay, ladies!!
I laughed and I shed a tear or two whilst reading, however I came out the end of it with the biggest dorkiest smile on my face.
I have always wondered what would happen if two pen pals met up once they had become adults. No one would have guessed that Luca and Griffin would do just that as he was from London and she lived in New York city. But circumstances change, and for these two, in a huge way and we get to read all about it in a great love story that starts with sweet innocent school kids messages into some steamy, sexy, dirty letters that will make your toes curl.
Tragedy strikes both these kids and it makes one want to reach out more to their pen pal, and the other to punish themselves for thinking they made a fateful purchase. So the letters cease after they had been corresponding for nearly ten years. Fast forward eight years, and a letter has shown up at Luca dad's apartment that shocks her to her core. And because letters are their thing, Griffin doesn't drunk dial her, he gives her a slamming in a note. From here these two get a second chance on their friendship, but if they can work out some immense issues, they might be able to take it the next level.
Luca had a real quality feel about her for me. She wasn't perfect, she had many flaws but she was generous and very sensitive. She was a survivor that her scars were on the inside and she fought hard on a daily basis to recover. I loved her determination. Griffin..... oh Griff! I had to look at the cover a few times when reading as he is definitely easy on the eye! As Doris would say, "I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers". I totally agree with her! But that wasn't his best quality, that's just surface stuff. He too had a sensitive sole, and why they were such a good match being pen pals. He was extremely talented and patient. And when he put his mind to something, he gave it one hundred percent attention and consideration. He was very supportive with everything Luca had going on.
My heart ached for them numerous times throughout the novel and I felt all their angst that comes with living their lives. I loved the epilogue, I was so happy with the growth that Luca had and excited for them both on what was around the corner. What I was also happy about was the surprise at the end of the book with a link. Do Not Miss This.
This book was perfect! Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward have created magic yet again with this story. It was an absolutely unique, stunningly sweet and tender love story! As kids, Luca and Griffin were pen pals for over a decade. Then eight years later Griffin writes Luca another letter which starts the letters flowing between them once again. Even though Luca was the one that initially stopped the communication between them, that has turned out to be one of the biggest regrets of her life. And over the years, even though they haven’t been in touch, she’s continued to cling to their friendship because they were really best friends who have never met. Suddenly, they’re adults writing letters to each other. They’re baring their souls to each other and the intense emotional connection is still there. Suddenly letters aren’t enough, at least for Luca who wants to meet Griffin. Griffin however feels he’s not ready to meet Luca just yet. They pride themselves on being completely honest with each other, but they both have a lot to come clean about. What will happen when these pen pals actually meet? Will finding out who they really are ruin what they have?
When Vi and Penelope write a book together, you just know it’s going to be awesome and they didn’t disappoint with this one! I found this one to be more “real”, touching on serious issues like fear, loss, mental illness, to name a few and they did it really well. I actually learned a few things! Griffin and Luca are both wonderful characters on their own and the chemistry they have together is off the charts! Starting as pen pals writing letters when they were younger, breaking away from each other and reconnecting years later, you can see where this is going to end up, the title kinda hints on that but there’s lot of unexpected surprises along the way. This book made me reflect a little. What would I do if I experienced what Luca had? Could I be as strong as her and work on all things difficult to have a happy ending? Guess I’ll never know but a book that makes you think as well as laugh, cry, get frustrated and fall in love with the characters? That’s a winner there.
Dirty Letters by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward is a contemporary standalone romance told in dual POV by two of my favorite authors. The emotion and passion that these two manage to wring out of their characters always amazes me. In most books an intimate scene between a couple can be hot and sexy and that's all well and good, but with Griffin and Luca - I honestly could feel the depth of their emotions. Their years of feelings and friendship followed by more years of no-contact and heartbreak culminating in a reunion that was so wonderful. I was amazed by how much I felt WITH these characters as I was reading. The serious issues that Luca has to deal with, the compassion that Doc shows, the understanding and effort from Griffin. I loved this book! Never a disappointment from these two - never! Enjoy!
I really wasn't prepared at all. From the minute I started this book, I was on a roller coaster of emotion. I actually laughed out loud.. do you know how rare that is for a book to make that happen for me? Even more so, I had tears... real, watery eyed, tears down my cheeks, tears. I felt my heart clench with pain and smile with joy.. everything that is Luca and Griffin is magic, and I sincerely wish I could go back to the start and experience every single thing this story gave me again (and again). Thank you, Vi and Pen, for bringing these amazing, beautiful words, world and love to us!
I’d like to applaud these 2 authors, for writing a book that tackled some pretty serious issues and doing so without sugar coating and miraculous recoveries. It was hard to read at times, emotional and heartbreaking but the connection between Luca and Griffin is strong and well developed throughout the book. I especially enjoyed Doc. Overall, a really good read.
