A.L. Jackson, one of my favourite authors, has done it once again. She has kept me totally enthralled with one of her stories. PIECES OF US was simply superb. Heartbreakingly emotional, Maxon (Mack) Chambers and Isabel (Izzy) Lane will have you going through every emotion you could possibly think of. Their second chance at love will leave you breathless.
Twelve years ago Mack broke both his and Izzy's heart. his reason, you can do so much better than me ... you don't belong in my world. Izzy fled and now she has returned with her two sons, Ben and Dillion. Mack would like to rebuild their relationship, however Izzy is hesitant because of the past.
Amy is clever in the way in which she presents various stages of Mack's past at different ages. She shows the life he had as a child, the abuse he suffered, and she also shows how Mack and Izzy's relationship developed. We follow how they met as four year olds, became great friends and then how that friendship turned into love, then how Mack ended it all when they were seventeen - to save Izzy from being in his self-destructive world.
I absolutely loved the interactions that Mack had with Izzy's two sons, they showed just what a wonderful man Mack really was ... full of an enormous amount of love to share, even if he didn't recognise it. Dillon is such an energetic little boy, his thoughts never stopping once he voices them. Ben is such a courageous little boy, one who broke my heart with his strength. I also enjoyed Mack's interactions with his two best friends, Ian and Jace. It is obvious that these three men share an unbreakable bond.
There's laughter, angst, mystery, suspense and plenty of sexual tension found in Mack and Izzy's story. This is definitely one of A.L. Jackson's best yet.
God what a tale of anguish, loyalty, faith and pure love. Izzy and Macks childhhod friendship grew into love or maybe it started out as love ,his little bird and her dragon - just beautiful. I loved this story and will be reading more of A.L. Jackson
Anyone who has ever followed my reviews would know I am a huge A.L. Jackson fan and would read absolutely anything she produces. I have been waiting for Mack’s story for what feels like a life-time, so you can imagine my elation when he finally entered my life. Pieces of Us was phenomenal and I would expect nothing less from such an amazingly talented story teller. The plot drew me in instantaneously and kept me captivated throughout, and in true Jackson fashion, the writing was like pure poetry. Pieces of Us was an angsty, emotional and heartbreaking story about second chances. A love so powerful that while it was lost, you knew it was always destined to be found once more.
Mack and Izzy have been each-others constant for as long as they can remember, and as they grew older, their life-long friendship developed into so much more. It was a love that knew no bounds. Mack suddenly decided to end their relationship and, in the process left Izzy confused and broken hearted. Mack had his reasons for ending their relationship as he felt he was doing her favor. He thought he was no good for her; but try telling Izzy losing the one person who meant the world to her was for her own good. Izzy makes the decision to leave everything behind and move from the only home she has ever known.
“She’d been my beginning. The girl had breathed her beauty and grace and goodness into my being. Made me think I could be something better. Saw me in a way I’d never seen myself. In the same way, she’d been my ending. My collision. The breaking point of who I’d been and who I’d come to be.”
Years down the track Izzy and Mack have come face to face once more and Mack is a tortured and broken man who has so many scars to bear. The love he has always felt for Izzy comes back full force when he sees the one woman who has always owned his heart. His love for Izzy is intense, deep and fierce. He’s lost her once before; will he be able to let the past and his demons go and give into the one and only woman he has loved with all of his heart?
Mack is probably my favorite hero to date; he is loyal, protective, caring and loves deeply. He is a tortured hero I just could not help but feel so deeply for. Izzy was just a phenomenal, strong, caring and sweet heroine, who has had her fair share of struggles and heartache, but every time she gets knocked down, she gets right back up with such strength. A true inspiration.
Their love and connection was profound, deep and the kind of love they both deserve. They were both remarkable people who deserved all the happiness and love they could handle. I was rooting for them throughout the whole story and wanted nothing more than to see them have the HEA they were oh so deserving of.
I’m not always a fan of sequences set in the past and present because I don’t feel they always work, they often affect the flow of the scenes, but A.L. Jackson wrote both to perfection. They both flowed seamlessly and never once did I feel like it affected the story in any sort of negative way.
Pieces of Us was such an emotional, angsty, heartbreaking story about second-chances, love lost and love found and the gift of forgiveness. I was addicted to this compelling story from the very first word and was invested in Mack and Izzy’s tumultuous and heart aching journey until the very end. A.L. Jackson’s writing is outstanding and she always draws me in with her poignant and thought provoking stories that I just can’t get enough of. She has always been a one click author for me and always will be. She writes the kind of books I ache for; the tortured hero’s and the woman they love who are the only ones with the power to help them. I can not recommend this story enough, especially for those who love their emotional second chance love stories. Be sure to one click this one.
Oh my, this book has wrung every emotion possible from my poor heart. A.L Jackson has just ruined me forever with this brilliant and very emotional book. I am a massive fan of this author; this lady writes emotionally charged romance full of angst like no other, and she does it so well.
This is Maxon and Isabel's story. The characters were just wonderfully written; Maxon took hold of my heart as a four year old boy and just never let it go. Such pain, so many emotions, so many times I cried for this boy and his destructive upbringing. I fell in love with the boy that grew into the man, who I loved even more.
Izzy is a strong independent single Mum fighting for some normality in her life after the struggles she has been through, I adored Izzy and the strength she possessed, but also her vulnerability too, I just wanted to hug her and reassure her everything was going to be okay. Her two children were so adorable as well, this story just had every component to hit the mark.
This is book 3 in the Confessions Of The Heart Series and it just literally swallowed me whole, I devoured it and many times whilst reading I couldn't make out the words for the tears. With awesome secondary characters that have been in the previous books and who once again make an appearance; this just added another layer to this wonderful masterpiece of a story. A.L Jackson has done it once again, this lady never writes anything but perfection, such a wonderfully imaginative writer and another series not to be missed !!
This man. This book. Perfect. Devastating. Protecting someone you love deeply is all that matters even if twelve years ago you went about it the wrong way. This book took so many emotions, Izzy is definitely my mum goals. Fierce. Loyal. Determined. I'm seriously sprouting single words that I'm sorta hoping sum up eveything. I am also probably 100% not doing justice here. I honestly do not meet the words to describe Mack & Izzy. They are pure, forgiving, trusting and above all else they are family.
Side note; If Maxon & Izzy are your fist instruction, go check out Jace & Ian in their own books. You wont be dissapointed.
This was a beautiful romance about second chances and learning to forgive. Absolutely enjoyed reading. I admit I did skim read a few sections and by the end just wanted the happy epilogue (the drama/pinnacle was a little drawn out) .... but I absolutely loved the rest - especially reading about the bond between Mack and Benjamin. I definitely shed a few tears.
