Joy is a very innovative and imaginative writer of crime thrillers. This story melds together an assortment of criminal activities and a psychopath with a grudge against the police and it seems Nikki Galena.

There is a crew of criminals stealing on demand in the area. At the same time Nikki's mother Eve loses a friend in suspicious circumstances indicating a government cover up. And Nikki is threatened by a voice using an old thieves language. She is given clues to a murder that is yet to happen.

So a great cast of villains against Nikki and Joseph dragging in the team plus the special forces friend Vinnie and the most formidable team of Eve 's friends from the war and MOD.

It's a thriller but Joy does it so well. I including the ongoing non- romance with Nikki and Joseph. I was a bit worried that the other items would be savagely torn apart but there is too much other things happening. The damage is done to a young constable in a neighbouring district.

Fairly packed with action and cast members. Good fiction., I think.
Not really believable, of course, but very easy to read.

Nikki, Joseph and the crew do it again. Sadly one doesn't make it. But there is an interesting addition to the team. Loved the story line, great twists and even the spooks get a go this time round. Highly recommended.

It takes many untimely deaths and a madman killing thieves to make Nikki lose her temper. But lose it she does. And all he'll breaks lose.

I’ve read all of this series and most others Joy Ellis has written, and this one was pretty lame. I feel like the well has gone dry with Nicki Galena, and the plots are clutching at straws on the edges. Maybe it’s time to retire her if there are no good ideas?
“The Fens” are starting to be a magical place where history has created an endless universe, like a theme park that changes each year. It’s not working for me, and the way this book came to the conclusion was pretty poor.

Unbelievable at times but still kept my interest . A nice conclusive ending. I have read many Joy Ellis books and look forward to the next one.

I have read many Joy Ellis stories but this beats the lot. A really good double plot keeps you unable to put the book down.
