I got mine for $109.99 and at a higher price than that I don't think it's worth it. You'll need a zigbee bridge to be able to control it (unless you've got one of the amazon alexa devices that can talk to it via zigbee) via the app or google home. Note the rated brightness in the product info (25w equivalent) - it's not that bright so it's more of a mood lighting device not a device to light up a room (I knew that when I got it). It has a builtin battery so you'll be able to unplug it and use it somewhere else (e.g. outside) for a few hours (don't let it get wet as far as I could see it does not come with any IP rating).
Having owned various Hue Products for many years, I was excited to see a "portable" product added to their line-up. Firstly, the positives; if like me you love adding and embedding new tech into your home, Hue (or other smart lights) should be part of your Smart set up. The products are easy to set up and add great ambiance to any room.
The Hue Go is easy to set up and super easy to control from the Hue App on your phone / tablet. As the Go is built for portable use, the battery life is around 3 hours MAX (depending on how often you are changing the colours). It is worth noting that while on your Wi-Fi, you can use the phone APP but once out of range, you can flick through the basic colours (white, warm white, candle flicker) with the press of a button on the bottom of the Go. I actually have two Go products set up behind my TV, to add some ambiance to films - I know most people would use a light strip for this but with Hue, you can only set one colour on the light strip and I wanted to option to have different colours either side of the TV. I mostly use these on the plug, not so much portable.
The negatives - you will need a separate Hue bridge to connect the Go (or any Hue light) to your network. The bridge is not cheap but it is a one off purchase – sometimes you can get this bundled in with other Hue lights, keep an eye on the sales. In addition, I did think the Go would be able to get brighter, I know these are for ambiance but it would be nice to have the option to push past 300lms. I actually think the Go has the lowest lms, especially compared to the light strip, which is 1600lms !! However, build quality, looks, usability are spot on so it can be forgiven as I only use the Go as a background light.
Overall, I am a fan - I know the price point is high but they do seem to last longer than normal bulbs (yet to have one blow on me) so if you work the cost over a couple of years, it does not seem so bad!
Great addition to any home and a good introduction to Smart Home!
I'm very happy with this purchase. It is a little smaller than I thought it would be but the light that comes out of it is excellent. Having so many colour options means, you can set it to the mood you're in. Even my wife, who is not keen on all this technology, is very impressed with it. I am using it through Amazon Echo Show, I don't have a Philips Bridge. This means, I have to use the Alexa App on my phone to operate or voice through one of my Echo's. Alexa, discovered the lamp straight away and it was set up within a minute - Very easy. Being able to use it without the power plugged in, is a bonus, as I can take it outside when needed. Not sure on the battery time, as I haven't run it for a number of hours yet.
I now have two of the Hue Go Lamps and some other Hue lights. On the downside, my original bridge stopped functioning and the Philips online customer service was totally useless. I debated giving up on the Philips but had invested too much on bulbs (globes) etc. so bought an extra Go and a new bridge. On the upside, it is nice to be able to change the light colours and brightness from my armchair, to turn out lights once I am in bed, and to take the Hue Go out into the garden, turn on some chilled music and sit with a friends and a bottle of wine. Greens are still not brilliant, but are getting better. Orange is my personal favourite.
I find the shape of this lamp very appealing. I use it as a bedside lamp, and have set up several scenes already, which I use depending on the time of day. Combining my lamp with my overhead hue lightbulb and a hue lightstrip, I can create lovely effects from the scenes Phillips provide, or from photos on my phone. For example, I took a photo of my bedspread to create a scene to match my room's decor. Compatible with my Google Home.
We have Hue installed throughout the place now with all our lights automated, and this little Hue Go is a perfectly versatile mobile addition, and moves between the indoors and the outdoors with ease. Great colour options for creating a mood.
I am a hue user for 6 months. they are awesome lights. my only con is the price they are expensive. I got most mine on special. saved a lot, shop around or wait for ur local store specials. I nearly have my 3 bedroom house all hued up.
