This is the first novel I have read written by this Author, but thankfully I have others in my collection waiting to be read. I can honestly say that this book was one of those that will stay in my memory for a long time. Started so slow, but once the story started to unfold the slowness disappeared into the background, as the ethnicity of the tale became paramount. Have read quite a few Chinese books before, but this one is one of the very best. I loved it - when it ended I truly felt as if part of my family had up and left me. The story is about tea growing in China, as well as the way the Chinese who grew this tea lived their humble lives, and eventually embraced the wealth that the tea brought to them. Do yourself a favour . . . .. read this book.
I thought it was fabulous. Well written, a good insight into the way the ethnic minority hill tribes lived and their coming into the modern world. I have read Lisa See before and enjoyed her books... this would be my top one. Highly Recommended.
I really loved this book. I am a sucker for novels written about China and this one was wonderful to read. Learning a little about Chinese tea was delightful. I have recommended this book to my friends knowing they will like it as much as I did. Lisa writes from knowledge and insight.
