Fantastic storyline but too much descriptive detail bogs it down a bit

This is an epic read. Takes a long time to wade through it. But worth sticking with it. I loved the fantastic storyline and extended plot. It's full of rich ideas and imagination. Really makes you think. The reason it's not 5 stars for me is that, like many others, I got a bit bogged down by the sheer amount of detailed description of futuristic devices etc. Although this did add a convincing feel to the book, at the same time it slowed things down too much, and there were times when I would skim a few pages of description with slightly glazed eyes.
I went in to this book knowing very little about it, and I had no clue as to the meaning of the title. I found this was a good way to approach this book, because as each new plot point was revealed, my enjoyment increased. So, while it's not my fav book by Neal Stephenson, still, it's a fascinating book, and well worth your time.
