Return a Gift

The Returns Support Centre allows gift recipients to return items fulfilled by Amazon AU if they were marked as a gift at the time of purchase. Alternatively, gift recipients can return their items using gift receipts shared by the gift giver. The type of refund or credit you receive depends on how the gift was purchased and how it's returned. All refunds are subject to our refund policies.

Note: Not all items are eligible for prepaid return options. When an item is eligible, you'll see the options in the process.

Step by Step Instructions when you do not have a gift receipt:

  1. Go to the Returns Support Centre, and click Return a gift. If prompted, log in to your Amazon AU account. If you don't have an account you'll need to create one.
  2. Enter the order number for the item you want to return and click Search.

    Note: Your 17-digit order number (or "Order ID") is found on the left side of your packing slip. If you don't have the packing slip, you can contact us. We'll ask for information to help us locate the order, such as the sender's name, their e-mail address, their phone number, and information about the item you want to return.

  3. Select the items you want to return, enter the quantity of items you want to return, and then select a return reason from the drop-down menu.

    Note: For items sold and fulfilled by a third-party seller, you'll see Submit return request. Some Amazon sellers review return requests before approving them.

  4. Click Continue.

    Note: If you're a gift recipient and the item is not marked as a gift at the time of purchase, you will see a message requesting you to contact Customer Service. Please contact us so we can assist you with the return.

  5. Select your preferred return method. Your return label or code will be generated.

    Note: If the return isn't the result of an Amazon AU error or a faulty item, return shipping costs will be deducted from your refund.

  6. If you receive a return label, print your label and return authorisation, put the return authorisation inside your package and attach the label to the outside of it. Some returns won't require you to print a label or authorisation.

    Note: If you need to print your return label and don't have a printer when you're completing your return, you can print later (we'll e-mail you a link to your label) or you can have someone else print your label for you.

  7. Send us your return package as per the instructions provided with the return label or code.


  • If you're the gift recipient, Amazon AU will process your refund as an gift card after your return is received. The gift card will be added directly to the Amazon AU account you use to initiate your return. If you're the gift giver, you'll receive a refund to the original payment method. All refunds are subject to our refund policies outlined in About Refunds. All return and refund rights we offer you apply in addition to other rights and remedies you may have under law including under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Gift recipients won't be offered an exchange or instant refund option.
  • If you're offered a pre-paid return label or code, please be aware that each of these labels or codes is assigned to a specific return. To make sure that you receive the correct refund, please don't include items from multiple orders or deliveries in the same box.
  • If you return items in which you've saved personal information, such as laptops, cameras or other electronic devices, you must erase this information completely before sending the product back to us.
  • A-to-z refund requests for gifts purchased from a third-party seller must be requested by the original purchaser, not the gift returner. If you need to request a refund under A-to-z Guarantee for a gift return, please contact the original purchaser.
