Book Won't Open on Kindle E-Reader

If your book won't open on your Kindle, or there's an error when you try to open a book, follow these troubleshooting steps.

Follow these steps if your book doesn't open on any Kindle e-reader, 3rd generation or newer. See Which Kindle E-reader Do I Have? if you're not sure which Kindle e-reader model you're using.

If your book won’t open, there may have been an error downloading the book.

To download the book again:

  1. Ensure your Kindle is connected to a wireless network. To learn more, go to Connect to Wi-Fi.
  2. Remove the title from your device. Press and hold the title of the Kindle book, and select Delete This Book (newer generation devices); or move the 5-way controller to underline the item you want to remove, press the 5-way controller to the left, and select Remove from Device (earlier generation devices).
  3. Restart your Kindle. For instructions on how to restart, go to Restart Your Kindle.
  4. Go to All or Cloud (newer generation devices), or Archived Items (earlier generation devices). Select the title to download it again.
