Content Won't Sync on Your Kindle E-Reader

To sync your content across your registered devices, make sure that you have enabled synchronization on your Kindle or Amazon account.

If your notes, furthest page read, and collections aren't syncing across your devices, check the synchronization settings on your Kindle or Amazon account.

To sync your Kindle content on any Kindle e-reader model 6th generation and newer:

  1. Make sure that Whispersync for Books is enabled on your Kindle. From the Home screen, select Menu > Settings > Device Options > Advanced Options. If Whispersync for Books is Not Enabled, tap this option and select Enable.
  2. Make sure that Whispersync Device Synchronization is enabled on your Amazon account. From your computer, go to Manage Your Content and Devices and select the Preferences tab. Under Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings), verify that Whispersync Device Synchronization is turned ON.
  3. Check the status of your wireless connection. You can view the wireless indicators from Home or any Settings screen. If you're reading, tap the top of the screen to view the indicators. .
  4. Check your software version. If your Kindle is not on the latest software version, update your device to the latest available version. To learn more, go to Fire & Kindle Software Updates.
  5. Manually sync your device. While reading, tap the top of the screen to view the reading toolbar, tap the Quick Actions (cog) icon, and then tap Sync My Kindle.

To sync your Kindle content on Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation):

  1. Make sure that Whispersync for Books is enabled on your Kindle. From the Home screen, tap the Menu icon > Settings > Device Options > Personalize Your Kindle > Advanced Options. If Whispersync for Books is Not Enabled, tap this option and select Enable.
  2. Make sure that Whispersync Device Synchronization is enabled on your Amazon account. From your computer, go to Manage Your Content and Devices and select the Preferences tab. Under Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings), verify that Whispersync Device Synchronization is turned ON.
  3. Check the status of your wireless connection. You can view the wireless indicators from the Home or any Settings screen. If you're reading, tap the top of the screen to view the indicators.

To sync your Kindle (5th Generation), Kindle Touch (4th Generation), or Kindle Keyboard (3rd Generation):

  1. Verify that Whispersync is enabled. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. Select the Preferences tab. Under Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings), make sure that Whispersync Device Synchronization is ON.
  2. Check the status of your wireless connection. If your Kindle is not connected to a wireless network, you cannot shop for, buy, download, or sync from your device.
  3. Check your software version. If your Kindle is not on the latest software version, update your device to the latest available version to receive your content. To learn more, go to Fire & Kindle Software Updates.
  4. Restart your Kindle. Press and hold the power button for a full 40 seconds. After the first 6 to 8 seconds, the screen will go blank, which is normal. Continue holding the power button. After 40 seconds, release the power button.
