Customer Review

The commencement of this book is in Darra, an outer western suburb of Brisbane. Our family had close relatives who lived in Oxley ( neighbouring suburb) and many times we visited them sometimes driving through Darra, so I found Trent Dalton's description of Darra absolutely " spot on". Some of the scenes in this book were " gut wrenching" and almost unbelievable especially to readers unaware of places like Darra and later in the book, BrackenRidge'. So sad to see these boys August and Eli in the story and I guess like many others had to experience a life like this and live with such a dysfunctional family. However, after a reader has ploughed through all the horror and violence, it all culminates with an explosive conclusion. Maybe the ending a little far-fetched or am I being cynical?
