Experienced consumers of myths, legends and Marvel will have no problem quickly slipping into a world where the physical laws as we know them don’t apply.
James’ writing is evocative and doesn’t labour any points but this can make it dense at times.
What does make this tale stand out to a white westerner is that it references black African myths.
It’s a very different work to his Brief History of Seven Killings (a spectacularly good read) but it’s interesting in its own right.
