I thought the fasting strategy complemented other bits and pieces of advice from other regimes, such as making sure you get enough sleep because you apparently lose weight whilst you sleep (so fasting also 'rests' the body from having to digest food), the fact that you aren't on a permanent deprivation diet and have a lot of variety, that you aren't restricted to just certain types of food groups. It makes sense and is worth a try as fasting in any event has a long history in its own right from a wide range of religious and cultural reasons.
