Although I used to often prefer King's short stories to some of his novels, this was a bit hit and miss for me. And more the latter than the former.
Interestingly my two favourite pieces (The Dune and Obits) both dealt with the notion of predicting death, so I'm not sure what that's about.
There's something for everyone though and he's a master storyteller. As I read some of the collection I was reminded of the Australian Aboriginal term of 'yarning' - which essentially means talking. We often use it more colloquially however and I found myself thinking how deftly King can 'spin a yarn'.
