Interesting and gripping story of life in Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation during World War 2. Because of the tragedies it can't be considered enjoyable to read but also it did show the impact of mixed race marriages and the acceptance or otherwise by the Hong Kong society in those days.
Having visited Hong Kong many times I was able to recognize many of the areas and could remember the smell of the harbor which added to the interest in reading it.
