This is good, honest, crisp police procedural, well written and entertaining without being outstanding. It was perfect holiday reading and I enjoyed it as such. It forms part of a series involving the same principal character, but is the only one of them that I have read. Selecting it at random as I did, and without any background in the series, very likely deprived me of certain nuances that might otherwise have increased my enjoyment of the book.
