Once upon a time, people liked trashy romances as their preferred form of escapism. Nowadays the bored housewives like so-called psychological thrillers where one doesn’t have to think too hard and can just take things at face value. The novel fits squarely into that category.
I liked the general plot. However there was far too much eye rolling from me to get me really enthused. You can’t have a 98% probability of matching DNA. You just can’t. And no one in 1975 had CCTV, let alone some dark alley in a backwater small town.
It’s fine for a debut novel. It’s fine if you just want a brainless read on the train to work. If you’re looking for something realistic, intellectually stimulating or unpredictable, this novel is not for you.
