Set in the early 1800's these stories are slightly old fashioned in manner of speech and I found this a bit boring. Historical romances are not my thing. Isabella is such a smart and courageous woman, well ahead of her times in the early 1800’s in Venice. Having to deal with her late husband’s obnoxious cousin Massimo was annoying enough but to then learn her late husband was not as good as she thought and what had happened to him. Ouch. I loved how Raphael proved to Isabella she could trust him but what a bummer having Massimo burst in like that. I really liked Isabella and thought her brave when she tailed Raphael, thinking he was cheating on her but loved what she did protecting Raphael. Though this is not discussed Isabella is well suited to becoming a vampire. Read in the box set of books 1-3. This book is the best of the bunch to me.
