I have enjoyed several novels by Wignall, this one drew me because I too love Vienna. He expends a fair bit of detail on the ‘feel’ of the city, and develops a character who falls in love with the city. The action keeps one involved and the hero is more competent than he would have us believe. Marina and Cheng are well developed characters and provide extra interest. I am, as always, astounded by the cavalier way in which lives are dispatched for such venal reasons, always hoping this is just fiction, but fearing it is the way of our world! Novichok in perfume bottles being one such recent instance. An engaging novel for a lazy afternoon.
