In the YA world generally when they talk about a bad boy, its someone with a general attitude but nothing much else, however Emerson seems to have a genuine bad boy vibe. He's from the "wrong side" of town, his father is in prison, he skips a lot of school and is apparently one bad decision away from juvie. On the other side of the coin is the quintessential good girl Harper, she tries hard to achieve, likes to help people and always does as she's told. These two characters collide in summer school when they are put together for a school assignment and for the first time Emerson starts to try and we start to see he does have a good heart. Although I don't see that this is Harper "changing" Emerson (as we all know you can't change someone's character that much) and its also not Harper having to compromise who she is to "lighten up" but instead Harper does show him a different way and that its not too late to embrace the part of himself that wants to try and graduate. Very enjoyable addition to the #BestFriendsForever series
