I love reading the Classics. It makes me feel educated, wise and edifies. When I was younger I tried to read this book a few times and couldn’t get past the extremely wordy introductory chapter. It was hard to concentrate let alone pick up the story line. Flowery prose to say the least. But audible and a long walk was the answer in this case. An apparently aged voice droning through the story while I did other things was a great vehicle to deliver this novel. If you like this book, try Butcher’s Crossing. Some similarities but to me a far better book.
