Customer Review

This is an unusual memoir. It’s basically a polemic. The structure is interesting: a generally short remembrance of a very specific location paired with a sometimes extended moralising essay.
There’s some glorious Winton writing, but some clunky bits as well. The trouble is that we get told repeatedly what we should think about various issues, and Winton’s views are nothing if not predictable. I felt I was being hectored.
