I knew well before purchasing the echo dot that the sound quality is sub-par. I love it that the echo dot has an audio out. I hooked it up to my receiver and for $39AUD my old floor speakers have been upgraded to smart speakers. I also have a google home which I use to play music and automate my hue lights. Between the echo dot and the google home, the echo dot wins when turning lights on and off, the response is quicker. They both have their pros and cons when performing similar roles. One thing Alexa can't do is produce the name of my suburb. When asking for the weather I have been given weather from another country...somewhere in South America so it can be a little glitchy. I like that you can give the Echo new skills, so in time I can tailor it to do more. The Echo's abilities have a long way to go, especially in Australia where we lose some functionality. BUT for $39 I'm happy for now listening to music on my old speakers and using a few functions.
