This is a really compelling read. As an Australian born and bred who has lived overseas, I often cringe at the descriptions of Australia by people who have visited or recently moved. Victoria has absolutely nailed the Australia we all recognise and is new enough to it to be able to bridge the gap to people who don't quite understand our language or wildlife or lifestyle.
Her descriptions of her experiences in ICU with Joe brought back vivid memories of my own visits to my brother a few years back.
I loved the update on the Lola original - out of the mouths of babes. And Lola the namesake seems to have the same zest for life, if not for men! As for the doppelgänger, it's something straight out of Sixpenny Cross so I recommend anyone to read this book and get hooked into Victoria and Joe's lives.
