Boy, that was great. Read it in one sitting. I didn’t think anyone could write a Post Apocalypse novel set in Australia, as we wouldn’t have the absolutely essential firearms required, and especially not in Tasmania, where that a-hole went crazier with his rifle and caused our gun laws to get even tighter. But Pete Aldin did it and has made an absolutely superb job of it.
The characters are all fantastic, well developed, completely realistic and growing throughout. The evil gangers are as bad here as anywhere else in the world, especially when there are no cops to stop them. The stupid and frightened are just as dumb and ignorant. We’ve all encountered the ugly older Aussie big-mouth, spewing hatred when what he and his were doing was about as foul as people can get,
Elliot makes a fabulous hero. A man with many regrets, sadnesses, PTSD and heavy loads to bear, who had been raised without any love, yet always does his best for his comrades and keeps his moral compass straight.
I can’t wait for the next book. I found 24 errors, including one Americanised one.
