I purchased five gift cards via the Australian site prior to Christmas, as I usually cannot purchase anything via the UK site (ridiculous), but they cannot be redeemed by UK residents! No warning message or system transaction preventing me from buying the cards in AUD.

I only use Amazon to purchase e-gift cards for clients.
What I have learnt is that you need to check what country Amazon you are logged into before purchasing!!
It's all a wee bit confusing, to begin with, if you are unaware. For example, if you are logged into www.amazon.com.au and send a gift to someone in the UK or US, they will not be able to use the gift card.
It's a shame it works like that but once you are aware I guess it's easy enough to manage.
Another thing to note is the login details are the same for all the different websites which got me in a fit of confusing rage haha. I thought I was being clever having separate passwords to help remind me what country to log into however you just have the 1 login, this even includes Audible!
Apparently, there are 14 international Amazon sites so I guess just make sure what site you are on first before purchasing anything!!!

It is redeemable only on Amazon AU and is it redeemable on millions of items. You can also set a delivery date (up to a year from today) which makes it an easy 'set-and-forget' gift.

You swap it out for an Amazon Gift Card. That's how. My work 'gifted' Virtual VISA gift cards for Christmas instead of a bonus or a shindig or anything, but because it wasn't a true card, I basically couldn't use it anywhere. Linked it to my Amazon account and bought a gift card with it, now I can (and have) used it on whatever I felt like.

Great option to consider if you don't know what to give someone special for their birthday. Checkout process was very easy, my recipient got their giftcard on the same day via email. Works well if you're under pandemic lockdown, and your recipient can start buying the gift of their choice straightaway on Amazon. Just make sure you check junk mail while waiting for the e-giftcard to come through, mine was sent there for the recipient.

Make sure you buy the eGift card in the correct region, especially if you are buying this as a gift! If you buy an Amazon eGift card from Amazon AU, it will only work on Amazon AU and not on other Amazon regions (UK, USA, JP, SG, etc). I guess this makes sense as you are then dealing with different currencies.

The best things about this eGift card are instant (electronic/email) delivery, no expiry, and no fees. You can also use it to buy eGift Cards from other brands (Xbox, Apple, etc).
