I never got the opportunity to play the original release. However, unlike most remasters, you can really see the amount of effort that went into this one. Graphics looks even better than the original and, despite the limitations of the switch, runs very smoothly.

This is a must buy for old and new fans of the Metroid series.

You'll spend 40% of your time wandering around aimlessly in a small room before realising you have to spend 55% of the game backtracking across 3 levels to find an upgrade you need. Then you have to go back to where you got stuck and hope that it's the right upgrade. It generally isn't. Rinse, repeat, shoot some stuff. The remaining 5% of the game can be fun if you try to ignore the fact that enemy AI is atrocious (even by 2002 standards) and the game hasn't aged well at all.

Play Super Metroid or Metroid Dread instead. There's a reason they havn't made any new 3D metroid games...It doesn't translate to 3D well at all.

One of the most overrated games in Nintendo history.
