It comes with a guide that tells you what the ideal temperature should be for rare through to well done for the different cuts of meat. The guide fits into the box where you store your thermometer. I have found it pretty accurate.

It can survive an accidently fall into water. To calibrate the temperature you need to insert the probe into ice-water.

Yes you can use it for a whole turkey or chicken. However you cant leave the thermometer inside oven while roasting/ cooking.
