I asked Alexa and she said " You need to go to the Alexa site & enable the apple skill. So I guess the answer is yes. I don't have apple music but I have spotify and it works.

Nope. Just plug it into a regular electric outlet and connect to the WiFi via the app and you're good to go. Easiest device I've ever set up

I never had a first or second generation Echo dot, so I’m not sure about whether you have to re-set up your devices that you have connected to Echo plus if you buy a 3rd gen dot.

It uses saved audio files after you have stated the key word ‘Alexa’ as you would have read already it uses these to increase its accuracy in your speech.
