My friend has done this with a Parrot mic/speaker, as she has an old car with just an FM radio, and it works perfectly. See less

Don't believe you can connect sorry. Look at updating head unit maybe.

A short USB cable, a short 3.5mm audio cable, a vent mount, the Echo Auto and some general setup paperwork.

Technical yes but it would need to be tethered to your phone to work, you would be better if getting a echo dot for home

Your wife would have to install the Amazon Alexa app on her phone and make sure Echo Auto added to her list of "devices" in the Alexa app. Also the Echo Auto needs to be paired with bluetooth to the phone. Not sure how it would go when both of you are in the car together though..
